Is the Focus on the Breath Forced or Gentle? (Video)

Here’s a great question by a reader of one of my meditation books, Meditation for Beginners – A 22-Day Course. The question is whether the focus on the breath at the nose is a harsh, forced focus, or is it better to make it gentle?

A quick answer is that it’s better to let the breath do what it will on its own. No attempt at controlling the breath should be done. All forms of control during meditation must be let go except the focus of the mind on the feeling of the breath in the nose.

Is the focus of the mind harsh? Gentle? The video clarifies it.
