The First Private 3-Day Deep Jhana Intensive Retreat
Wow. I’m sitting here on the morning following our first 3-day private Deep Jhana retreat here in Krabi Thailand and I have a really good feeling about it.
I haven’t asked for permission to write about any kind of details that might reveal who he is, so I’ll keep this completely anonymous for now.

Morning Session

We met 6 times over three days. Each session was roughly 3 hours.
He chose to stay at a hotel in Krabi Town rather than at the nature resort. Either option is available. Not everyone enjoys the bare-bones accommodations and closeness to bugs and other nature that is part of the experience out there.
Starting time was 5:30 am. with a pickup. Meeting time was around 6 am. We climbed some steps for 15 minutes, arriving at a viewpoint that I enjoy in the freshness of the early morning. The photo just above and the one just below show some of the 360 view.
We had a beautiful breeze each morning as we climbed the last steps and hit the open pavilion with stunning views of mountains, a temple, the city, and the countryside.
Our sessions usually consisted of short meditation sessions between 10 and 20 minutes. We reviewed each one and then enjoyed questions and answers from both sides. In each session was a block of time for teaching some aspect of the program.

Breakfast consisted of bottled mineral water, Greek yogurt, bananas, and salted almonds. You can choose to a large degree what breakfast consists of, and this was his preference. It fit my tastes perfectly!
During breakfast, more Q/A and general talk about past practice, past learning, history, and other topics comes up naturally.
We tend to finish with a session or two of sitting meditation and review.
By 9-930 am. we were usually finished for the morning session.
Late Afternoon Session

Around 4:30 pm. our student was picked up at his hotel and was driven to the nature resort where we met in the parking lot. By this time, the sun has dipped behind the 200 meter-high mountain towering above us. There was a breeze 2 out of 3 days so it was really comfortable already, despite the 34°C heat of the mid-afternoon which had dipped to 30-31°C by this time.
We meet briefly with the manager of the place, Son, and his lovely wife Joob, who make everyone who visits feel like they are part of their family.

We walk up a small hill on a rough sidewalk toward the natural spring-fed pool area. It’s natural freshwater that comes off the mountain and fills up the pool. It’s a nice quiet place to sit and the sounds of nature are all around but seem to fade into the background as one focuses easily on the feeling of the breath in the nose. Odd sounds are registered as new birds chirp, but it all fades and meditation sessions here are peaceful and productive.
A talk, and questions and answers fill out the rest of the afternoon session as the sun sets and mosquitos fill the air for a bit. We’re in small meditation tents made of mosquito net so if we’re careful not to allow any in, we have a very nice session. 🙂
At 7:30 pm. we start the walk down the hill toward the on-site restaurant. Son taught his entire family how to cook Thai food, and it’s absolutely delicious no matter who makes it. There is open-air seating and often a breeze, but fans are available to keep cool.
Vegetarian or meat/seafood dishes are available. The Pad Thai and Penang Chicken were eaten with smiles.

Other Locations for Sessions
We have some other locations we can go to for meditation and talking. Some require a farther walk. Some require more climbing. Some require the ability to ignore people walking by as they are in national parks.
