The Breath is NOT the Object of Meditation for Access Concentration Leading to Deep Jhana

Here’s a video covering the answer to probably my most often asked question by students and people who find Jhana8.

Many people cannot seem to focus on the feeling of the breath. I address that in this video.

Many people think the BREATH is the object of meditation. It shouldn’t be.

It’s the FEELING OF THE BREATH that is the object of meditation. It’s a sensory object. TOUCH. The touch of air on the nose. Usually. The expansion of chest or rise/fall of diaphragm for some people.

The tingling/vibration TOUCH is the important thing. Forget about the entire idea of BREATH.

Email yesterday:

I want to ask how to do Breath meditation properly. Many teachers such as Pa Auk and Visuddhimagga insist on the nose but I don’t feel anything much around my nose. I even feel stressful/tense trying to feel the Touch around my nose. I don’t feel any Piti-sukha at all even though i’ve tried to follow the technique.
