Friends of Jhana8 – A note from Vern

For the last two decades, I’ve been living in Thailand with my wife, two daughters, and my wife’s mother. I stayed longer than was financially wise because being present for family as my children grew felt more important than optimizing income.

Over time, that balance has reached a point where it no longer works.

The reality is that I need to relocate back to Oahu in order to secure higher-paying work than is realistically available to me in Thailand. This isn’t a desire for change. I would much rather remain here. It’s a practical necessity, largely due to the restrictions Thailand places on foreign workers. Many roles I’m qualified for are legally reserved for Thai nationals, making them inaccessible to me.

Why Hawaii. I lived there for six years. I know the place, the pace, the people, and the costs. I know how to live simply there, and I understand the local hiring landscape. My skills align with several higher-paying roles, and realistically I expect to secure solid work within 30 days. From there, I can continue building toward longer-term stability.

Another consideration is proximity. Being based in Hawaii will make it easier to stay connected with my family in Thailand. Over the next year, the goal is either to bring them to the United States or to reach a level of stability that allows me to return and remain in Thailand with them.

I haven’t lived in the United States for just over twenty years. Returning is not easy, emotionally or logistically. Still, it is the most responsible step forward right now.

If my writing on meditation, Jhana, non-duality, and inner stability has been meaningful to you, and if you’re in a position to help, I’m opening this page as a gentle request for support during this transition.

If it’s more comfortable for you, support can also be offered as a short-term loan. I’m open to repaying contributions once I’m re-established.

As soon as possible after arriving in Hawaii, I’ll begin offering meditation and Jhana sessions to help supplement income while I re-establish stable work. These sessions will be simple, sincere, and grounded in the same clarity that guides this site.

If you’re able and would like to support this transition, details are here.
