Vern is Returning to Hawaii

I will be moving back to Oahu, Hawaii in very early 2026. Not only has it always felt like home for me, but it gives me a number advantages over moving back to the mainland. Proximity to my family in Thailand is the main advantage, but there are a handful more. Oahu just makes sense.

If you can help me in this transition with a referral for a cheap room in/near Waikiki, or a donation or loan – here is some more info >

I will likely stay in Waikiki for a month or so as I will be looking for a full-time position there, or in town. I will start general medtiation sessions in Kapiolani Park or the beach initially and add Jhana coaching and private Jhana meditation training sessions as I figure out good locations to do so.

Does anyone know offhand if mosquitos are a problem either at the park or beach in the early morning say 6:30-8 am?

Most of the readers of Jhana8 and my meditation books come from California. Probably 85% of all readers and website visitors. I hope to see some of you in the next few months!

If you live in Hawaii or will be visiting in early January and you’re a reader of this site or my books, please at least say hi. I last lived in Hawaii (Oahu and Maui) in 2004 and though I have a couple of friends still there, I’m always open to meeting new people.

If you have resources or connectionson Oahu and might know a place I could stay – a room in a house or an apartment – please let me know. Initially I’ll be trying to save money on housing, so something around $1000 (I know, a closet), will be necessary!

Core Breathing Sessions

I’m hoping to hold meditation sessions at the beach as it would keep down costs for everyone and it’s just a much nicer atmosphere outside. I have some mozzy concerns but we’ll see how that goes. Mobile mozzy nets may work!

Core breath meditation sessions will focus on the necessary parts of focusing on the breath, or more specifically, the feeling of the breath at the nose.

Core Concentration Sessions

It takes some real effort and some letting go to be able to fully immerse one’s self in the game of focusing on the tiny feeling of breath in the nose. What about distractions? What about focusing on other sensations? How does one make progress and what does progress look like?

We cover this in the Core Concentration sessions – also, hopefully, held at the beach or in the park.

Jhana Coaching

Jhana training will be done in private sessions so we can comprehensively cover all the variables involved.
